Ok, I love Zatanna and I'm not sure why. For anyone who may not know who she is, she's a dc character who does magic by casting spells in "backward speak." Wanted to have this done by the week of the contest but couldn't. Anyway, enjoy!
This is awesome! I so love your method of shading, the way it looks like a woodblock print; did you take printmaking at school? I would agree with Nate's idea about submitting to DC except that I'm pretty sure they don't take open submissions--EVERYBODY wants to work for DC...
Guh, your shapes and tons with the black lines impressed me from the first go and they STILL do not cease to amaze me that you can make her look so 3D but not be so overly busy with the lines. She has such a cute face! Again with the 3D thing - the pose suits your method of cross-contour shading and looks great.
Thanks for posting as well! We need t get this place revved up and going!
Impressive work, Ozzie! I could see your style being very attractive to the folks at DC. If you ever go to any conventions, be sure to check the guest list to see if anyone from DC is attending. They will sometimes do portfolio reviews or you could at least give them your contact info.

Woo, Ozzie! That's a great Zatanna! The way you do your shading really makes her coat and boot pop. Are you thinking of sending some stuff DC's way?

Thanks. Nah, I love comics but I'm not sure I'm cut out for it. Still, it'd be nice someday...

Yep, I took a year of printmaking. I think that's where I got into using lines to create tone. It's a fun, and time consuming, challenge.
