Wacky Tablet

Howdy howdy! I'm so excited about this Wacom I can hardly sleep. I got the Intuos3, and here's what I've doodled up so far. Hardly enough to be called doodles, but I'm just too giddy. Pray for my sleep-deprived brain.

  • Your cartoons always look good because you give your characters life--they're not just talking heads. But maybe including more background art could give the reader a better sense of location and add more visual interest. How do you think the Wacom will improve the style you've developed? Is there another area of art that you want to explore with it? I'm just asking because it seems that the same coloring effects here could be achieved with a mouse.

  • That's a good point, and backgrounds are something I've always struggled with. I can create foreground scene elements, and far background scene elements, but I've always been poor at connecting them. There's a monster under my sketchbook, and his name is Cohesive Perspective.

I agree that the coloring effects in the cartoon can be achieved with a mouse, but it's SO much easier with the Wacom. I imagine I'll get braver with different techniques when I get better, but right now it takes too much time to be experimental.

    Thanks for the input!
